Racism Alive and Well, But Where?

One thing that always amuses me about American media is the quick and overpowering response to news that is generally negative about American problems, but if worse things happen in the enlightened land of Europe, narry a word is mentioned in the Big Media.

A few weeks back I was watching Real Sports on HBO. Bryant Gumball was reporting as usual on race in sports. While normally I get sick of hearing about it from him, b/c he is constantly speaking about the injustices of Race in American sports, I listened b/c it was an actual up to date story about race today. This time there were no anecdotes from athletes who performed in the 40s or 50s, Gumball does an interview with Theirry Henry, the French international superstar and Arsenal Captain. Bryant discusses with Henry how there is not only covert racism, but actual regular racist chants and gestures occur at nearly every game. This unfortunately is rarely reported outside the sports media.

Yesterday Samuel Eto the Barcelona striker nearly walked off the field during league play in Spain. He was coerced to remain on the field by teammates and coaches. This story if it happened during an American football or basketball pro-game would have made every newspaper in this country headlines. It would be discussed for weeks on television media and congressional hearings would take place. Funny though, not a word is mentioned outside the sports media here in the states. Are you kidding me? This should be a huge story, but it is not even mentioned?

What is up with the Media? Why don't they report this? Why is it acceptable for European whites to be Blatantly racist, but in America the evil empire, the creator of all ills, it is reported that if Rush Limbaugh makes a comment about the media wanting black quarterbacks to succeed, regardless of results, as racist. This news made headlines for weeks and just shows that there is a bias against this country in our media. You reporters out there should be riding this like cowboys and showing some balance. You fear a backlash from pseudo-intellectuals who want to beleive that Europe is so much more advanced than the US.

Where the F%$# is Jesse Jackson on this. If this were Donovan McNabb (sp?) He would have the Rainbow Push en masse with the blackmail account numbers ready for the Spanish Football Association to make the payoff.

Here a european who doesn't believe America to be the evil empire and creator of all ills (I think that place is located in the middle east somewhere).
Please don't hate us europeans for being so enlightened, and please don't presume us to be one happy nation. It's only some politicians that want it to look like that.

I've seen american media, and it was unlike anything I've ever seen before. I've never seen news reported with so much opinions expressed by the people who are just supposed to report what's going on. I realize it's hard for any human being to give an objective account of events taking place, but can't they at least try?

They're asking for people like Rush limbaugh to at least try and bring some balance.

It seems to me that the 'hate' in America is no longer between the races, but between the political parties.

You know, for all the complaining; America or Europe really aren't bad places to live for those who are willing to put some effort into making life work for them.

I'm quite pleased with my freedom.

Petra, you are dead on! My bent is not with Europeans or Americans. I have a big problem with the way that Americans are portrayed by the American Media. I can't speak for the European media b/c I don't have access other than Sky Sports News via Fox Soccer and maybe occasional BBC. I don't mean to belittle you for being European, I just hate being told that we are less sophisticated by idiots here that are American Self Loathers. Truth is I love European Culture and if had my choice would probably live there if I could. My point is to say that Europeans have as many problems as we do and should not be looked at as better, just different.

Here in the states though we are constantly lectured about how we cause ,by being the worlds policeman, most of the ills in the world. We are also lectured about how we are evil b/c of the crusades and how we have never left that mentality.I guess the reformation and us leaving europe never counted for anything.
Race is a common theme here in the states in which progress in how it has been bettered is never reported. Just look at the latest Oscar winning movie to see that this issue is never dead. We are told by the media to look at the multi-cultural Euro's as an example of how things should be. I just point out to the idiots that things there are definitely not better than here regarding race.

Jesse Jackson is the same place he was during the Clarence Thomas hearings and countless other incidents involving blacks who are NOT LIBERALS... waiting to take the next order from the Man.
